shut down problems

I just bought a brand new compaq laptop and all i have done is downloaded frostwire and yahoo im, now when i try to shut it down it get to the bluescreen where it says shutting down with the little cirlcr next to it, but it never shuts down, it stays at that screen, what could be the problem

Hi, try system restore point to a point before you had this issue. Right click on computer>go to system protection.
