Hello, my laptop is having major trouble trying to locate my 2Wire gateway that is withing 10 feet of it. I've tried many diagnostics and troubleshooting tests and they do not work. I've tried going through cmd and checking the netwrok status. The signal strength for this laptop has always been very low. Anyone with experience with a 2Wire gateway would be appreciated. Thanks for the help.

Ghost225,

I would log into the 2Wire and check the wireless settings. If there is an option, I would reset the wireless settings to factory defaults. To log into the 2wire one of the following should work:

Usually, all 2Wires can be accessed with using a web browser to browse http://homeportal or http://gateway.2wire or with direct IP address of the router (normally http://192.168.1.254 or http://172.16.0.1)

Good luck!

I would check the following on your laptop, if it applies to you:

1. Make sure your Wireless switch is physically set to the "On" position on your laptop.
2. Enable your wireless connection if not done, and maybe evan enable ICS through your wireless NIC properties (just a thought)

A couple things i noticed was you didnt have a default-gateway set, perhaps set that to the IP address of the router interface your trying to connect to. Setting the default-gateway can be done by going into your Wireless TCP/IP properties. And since you stated above that your signal strength has always been low, i would try moving your laptop closer to the 2Wire gateway for better signal.

I hope some of this helped ;l
