How to Burn an ISO File

Guide Overview

The purpose of this guide is to teach you how to correctly burn an ISO file to a CD or DVD.

Tools NeededInstructions
  • First, ensure you don't already have a piece of software installed which knows how to handle an ISO file. You can test this by double clicking on the file.
  • If that doesn't work, download IMGBurn, and save it to your desktop. (Link above)
  • Double click the file on your desktop, and follow the onscreen instructions to install IMGBurn.
  • Start IMGBurn by going to Start -> All Programs -> IMGBurn -> IMGBurn
  • Push the Posted Image button.
  • Select your target ISO file by clicking on the Posted Image button and browsing to the target file.
  • Insert a blank CD or DVD disk into your CD or DVD burner.
  • Push the Posted Image button.

IMGBurn will burn your ISO image file to a disk and report when it has finished.

In the following screenshot I have selected an iso of XP home oem where I slipstreamed sp3 into the cab files with Nlite, after inserting a verbatim blank cd-r
I then set the burn speed for 16x as I don't trust max speed for anything this critical

No. Try not. Do... or do not. There is no try.

IMGburn is good, but ISORecorder is the one I like. Small and efficient!

Hello, AA.

Considered using ISO Recorder for this tutorial, but it doesn't support burning DVD images on XP machines.

Imgburn also supports all OS's even wine/linux

And will burn BD images when and if they come out

I stand corrected. Or, rather, updated.
