I run windows vista home premium. Really just trying to get it to run a little faster and thought 72 processes was a little high.

Thanks

Follow the suggestions here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic44690.html
Although it's for XP, it's very similar for Vista

Here's a good link
http://www.speedyvista.com/services.php

Unless you are disabling a service where you know exactly what will happen(e.g. disable indexing then windows search will be slower) it's a good idea to change one service at a time and keep a log of what you did. Use the PC for a bit, then if it acts weird, you have the previous settings noted in your log to get it back.

Another good resource, esp for when you get things nicely tuned is the freeware LookInMyPC.
It can print out your services in a nice color coded table. I bought a 32 bit Vista PC in April 2007. It took me a long time to get the services and other stuff tuned to where it didn't run the hard drive all the time etc..

I just bought a PC with Vista 64 bit. Took my printout out of the drawer and went down the list of services. After just a few days of tinkering I'm cruising along nicely!! Well worth the effort.
