Hi,
First off, heres my system description
Make: Dell Inspiron 1520
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit
CPU: 1.8ghz
RAM: 2gb
GPU: Nvidia GeForce 8600M GTr
HD: 100gb @7200rpm
In brief, I downloaded a video and it came in rar along with a very small file called easydecrypter.exe. I was convinced at the time to install it as it said it was a codec in the readme file. Installation proved nothing and asked me to update video driver (did not update driver until later). After rebooting the system i got BSODed (code: 0x0000008e (0xc0000005, 0x951ADD90, 0xA26BB048, 0x00000000) ). Ever since, i cannot boot into Windows normal mode. I am posting the thread here because i need to clear the BSOD before i can get rid of the virus. Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The STOP 0x8e error occurred while accessing memory (the c0000005 tels us that).
Most often these are hardware compatibility issues. With a system that's been running for a while, this usually means a driver issue.
Try this link to analyze the BSOD and post the results here for us to have a look at. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic176011.html

thank you Garmanma, i misunderstood your intention.
usasma, i followed the link and tried to follow directions. it appears that many problem solving approaches require me to install some sort of software. However, as everytime i try to boot normal windows i get the blue screen, i am running safe mode which has disabled many software installations. If you or anyone knows how to enable software installation in safe mode i can maybe progess to the next step. thank you in advance

i just wanted to update my progress. in msconfig, i selected the selective startup enabling services that were running in safe mode, windows installer and sound/display drivers. im not sure if there are any risks involved in doing this (since safe mode disabled windows installer and im basically running on safe mode w/ sound and display drivers), but now i am able to boot normal windows and best of all install programs.
