Hi All,

My Lite-On XJ-HD166S will not recognize any disc. The system shows the device as working properly. Anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks,

Rex

First, try to use the drive to boot from a bootable disc or two - preferably try both CD and DVD, such as an XP installation CD or Linux Live CD and a similar DVD. This excludes the operating system as a factor. If the drive cannot read bootable disks to allow the system to boot up from them, then the fault is in the section of the drive that reads the disc (the rest of the drive still works OK, so it reports in Device Manager as working OK). The only practical thing to try if this is the situation is a laser lens clean. Otherwise the drive is bad.

If booting works fine, then we can proceed to investigate the software side.

I pressed F5, and I'm feeling refreshed...
