BleepingComputer.com: Problem with nec dvd +-rw nd-3530a

I've tried flashing the drive but it didn't work, I still get the same problem. When I insert a blank Sony DVD+R 16x disc and go to my computer my dvd drive says it's a cd-r drive and doesn't recognise the disc. When I then double click on the drive I get an error message saying 'E:\ is not accessible Incorrect function.'

My drive says it's a DVD-RW Drive with no disc inserted although in Device Manager it says it's a nec dvd +-rw nd-3530a. The -RW DVD discs work fine.

Can anyone help me please, can I use +RW discs or am I mistaken?

Is this a new drive, or did it just start having problems?

In device manager, right click on it, and uninstall it. Restart your computer. When your computer turns on again, it should automatically reinstall the drivers for it and say new hardware detected.

Hi Sterling, thanks for getting back to me so quickly. The PC is second hand, I've had it about a month, as far as I know it's always been like this.

I've tried what you said and it made absolutely no difference. This is really baffling me.

I guess that I don't know what you mean by..."copy files to the drive..."

LOL, I thought that's what you meant...but it doesn't hurt to be sure.

I take it, then, that you are using the XP burn feature.

What happens if you try to burn with a known program, such as Nero? Does the burn complete properly?

Yep, Nero is working fine. I wonder what the problem is with windows then. Nero will do anyway, I don't need the 2. Thanks for all your help.
