Windows Movie Maker Lost imported video

Hi
Can anyone shed any light on this problem?
I am importing video clips from a DVD into Movie Maker with intention of editing them to create a movie. My problem is that the imported material is incomplete, sections are missing.
I have Defragged the hard drive and shut down everything I can whilst importing but it makes no difference.

My system is a Dell with Athlon 64x2 dual core processor 4400+ Memory 2.00GB
