Hey guys i'm building a new computer and not shore if i want a dual or quad core atm
I could get a dual AMD Athlon 64 X2 7750 AM2 Black Edition $145 or a quad AMD Phenom 9950 Quad-Core Black Edition AM2+ for $275 so that future games will be good. Right now I won't be playing many of the new games but i might end up say 2 years down the the track. If you want to futureproof yourself go for the quad even though few current games make use of all four cores. Some very old games, like The Sims 2, can use only one core so you are, in that case, limited to the clock speed of the processor. Nothing runs GTA4 very quickly, for that you need not only a good processor but also a very good video card with plenty of video memory if you want to enable high end effects. BTW, the Phenom II edition of AMD's quad core processors are better processors all around. I suggest you consider either the Phenom II 920 or 940. I also suggest that, unless you are comfortable with WINE, you go with Vista 64-bit in order to ensure greater compatibility with games.

Yeah, what he said...
I always figure to get the most recent and best I can afford because it won't take long before it goes obsolete. I built my computer 4 1/2 years ago and it was pretty much obsolete within 6 months. So go for the biggest and best you can afford and it won't be obsolete as soon...

When i went for my computer at the beginning of last summer, I decided it was worth the extra 60-70$ to get the quad core. It just allows you to get more power in general, and for converting videos, i'm betting it does go twice as fast.
I don't know if a 150$ difference would be worth it though. Anything under 100$, probably.

Cheers guys
Yer DJPace i'll prob stick with vista then, and the Phenom II 920 is like $375 and the 940 is like $425 way to much to jump to. I only wanted to chuck in the extra $130 for the quad if it was worth it and sounds like it is(it's the same speed but just 2 extra cores).
