I am trying to do a clean reinstall of Vista on my Dell 531 using the CD that came with the machine 14 months ago. It downloads the files and then expands them but then gives me the Error 0x8007045D stating that the installation cannot be completed.

I've looked on various forums but although there are plenty of reports about this error there do not appear to be any answers !!!

Anyone here know anything about this particular error?

Many thanks.

It looks like this is an I/O error from what I am reading. This may be a hardware problem with your DVD drive. If you have access to an external DVD drive you might try using that and see if it works. The other suggestion I read was to create a folder on your hard drive and copy the entire contents of the Vista DVD over to your hard drive. If you receive the same error while it's copying over it's probably time to call Dell about the DVD drive.

I also believe it has something to do with the Disk drive.
Doesn't your Dell have the recovery partition?
