What's a good program I can use to create and edit videos?

I'm kind of the go-to guy in my school for graphics stuff (but only because there's nobody else), and it really frustrates me when I can't come out with good videos. Windows Movie Maker just doesn't cut it-- It's really limited, and the quality of the output is really bad.

So... Yeah. I'm looking for something easy to learn, easy to use, easy on the processor and (hopefully) free. But most important is good output. I'm using Windows XP.

Thanks ahead of time for the suggestions.

For splitting, arranging, adding effects and sound i use Sony Vegas. Simple yet powerful. But Iа you need something more professional I think you should go for Adobe Premiere or something like that
