I just saw this in one of the other forums I frequent:

Quick synopsis: Firmware bug prevents system from recognizing drives, firmware problem triggers failures in Seagate's current-generation Barracuda 7200.11 hard drives.

Do you have a Seagate 1 TB or 1.5 TB HDD in your system?

Wow, I was just looking into purchasing the 1TB version of this drive. Thanks for the heads up!

Is there a fix as of today?

The Seagate forum link (I posted) is probably likely to be the best source of info on this, I think. They have an 8-page thread that contains various comments.

Hmmm, even with this supposed "firmware fix", I wonder if this drive is still worth purchasing?

Although I tend to have a high opinion of Seagate drives...I'm not married to them.

I have no problems using other drives, other than Seagate, until they get this sorted. Samsung drives have always performed well for me (I have a 1TB Samsung drive).

But I continued to buy IBM drives when the Deathstar fiasco was big news...I never bought a bad one.

I just tend to go with whatever is cheapest when I buy since I'm not doing anything high-octane and I've not experienced high failures of hard drives during the time that I have been interested in computers. They all seem to work fine for me, unless I drop them :thumbsup:
