You could also check out this often under rated Program? It works fine with WIN98 and has a Tea Timer to protect your Registry. It actually tells you when something is trying to change your Registry and gives you the option to stop it, in most cases. http://www.safer-networking.org/en/spybotsd/index.html Couple it with a Good FireWall and you have good Protection. Look for Online Scans to use as well, some are still compatible to WIN98. Edit, Forgot the Link! Just Remember that WIN98 is no longer supported by many things, so you need to improvise, as keithuk is saying. He has been doing it for years. If my memory is 100% correct my parents and I had a lot of problems with 95. They still waited till late to upgrade (2004-2005) and that same computer died not long after we gave it away (I think). I still remember the days of me watching the "95 tour videos" over and over even though I knew it by heart. My dad also swore by AOL until late too (just found out we were using AOL when it was already discontinued even though we migrated to AT&T's DSL earlier in this year
**This for some reason brought back a memory when my dad was calling Dell in 2004-2005: (Hello. Yes we want to buy a new PC with XP home. Then he says he wants AOL as the main web browser but wants to include IE and I'm glad he did that). So, I don't think we go to computer shops to get computers. We order them over the phone.** 98+XP is better than 95 and if I had to go back to a old OS, I would go back to 98. |

http://www.martin2k.co.uk/forums I've been programming with VB for 13 years. Started with VB4 16bit Pro, VB5 Pro, VB6 Pro/Enterprise and now VB3 Pro. But I'm no expert, I'm still learning. |

Nah, its not. You clicked on AOL and it took you to its own unique browser (that was cancelled) in my case and a couple other cases. Because an IE never showed up in the process with AOL...period unless you started IE along with it.
And we went to DSL anyways earlier in the year. Caught alot of unexplained problems with AOL. If you are one staying with 95 or 98 then I applaud you. My dad (he is hotheaded though), was ready to throw the Windows 95 computer out the window the last time he couldn't get into windows and had to reinstall mainly because he lost a manuscript. He wasn't too happy the other times he got to reinstall. |

I have an old HP with WMe installed. It sits off to the side for use during nasty weather. With DSL available now it is quite adequate for web surfing. And if lightning takes it out there would not be the loss that I would experience with the two newer computers. Just possibly the DSL modem and router lost.
I also use the old HP for printing and copy as the older printer and scanner will not work with WXP SP3. And I gave up on purchase of ink cartridges for the newer printer/scanner. Black is all I really need and self refill is much cheaper. |
