BleepingComputer.com: Debugger Detected - WinIce/SoftIce Service

WinIce/SoftIce service. Ever heard of these things?

I am trying out a program called Watchdog-O-Matic that I was hoping would be able to help me find out the reason I'm having such difficulties with one of my favorite applications (TreepadX Enterprise). Earlier today, after Treepad crashed, instead of reopening it the usual way, I used Watchdog to load it again and got this error message:

Protection Error
Debugger detected - please close it down and restart!
Window NT users: Please note that having the WinIce/SoftIce service installed means that you are running a debugger!
........................

I can't find anything on my system with the name WinIce or SoftIce. I can't find a service by that name or anything like it. I uninstalled Windows Debugger, rebooted and tried again but got the same error message. When I googled it I found an old - unresolved - issue posted on another forum.

I am able to open Treepad myself. The issue is with Watchdog's insistence that I have a mystery service running. I would like to track down the stealthy debugger on the off chance that it (whatever it may be) is causing Treepad's many crashes.

Yes, before you ask - My system is clean. I if WinIce/SoftIce could be running under another name. But then where would Watchdog have pick up that name?

I am hoping someone can tell me what it is and/or where I can get more information.

WinIce/SoftIce is and old program from www.numega.com which is defunct
You can try the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to see if there are any remnants left over:

You can also try Revo uninstaller and look for references to it
