emachines dvd+/-r/w/ram/labelflash

This is the First time I have tried to use the dvd drive ever on this computer. I have had it for two weeks and it won't write anything or even recognize that a dvd or cd is put into it. I might just be doing somethng wrong. Please help me out. I tried using the online emachine support and the call in support but apparently no one speaks english there. Any help would be appreciated.

If you try and open the case you run the risk of voiding any warranty. I would return the computer to the place you bought it from and tell them the drive doesn't work. If your not concerned about the warranty open the case and make sure the drive is plugged in.

I was more or less looking to see if someone could guide me through a troubleshooting process to see if it's human error or not.

Go to the run command in the start menu and type diskmgmt.msc and see if the drive is listed. Is the drive listed in the bios menu and in windows explorer?

I see a removable disk f but I don't think that is it. I'm not sure what to look for. Your help is greatly appreciated. I'm about to pull my hair out over this crap.

If you cant see the drive in windows explorer, or you cant access the drive in the bios menu (when you first boot the computer) the the drive is either bad or not plugged into the motherboard.

Alright how do you access the bios menu? Also what should I be looking for once I get there?

Other than the c: and d: drives I see the f: drive. I don't think that is it though but I'm not sure.

Does your "F" drive look something like the one posted below? (It will have a CD/DVD icon, etc).

Hmm you should see allot more drives than C/D/F since you have a Media card reader, unless your reader is only assigned one drive letter. If there is no CD/DVD icon next to the drive letter F then those are your media card slots and windows isn't even recognizing you have a DVD rom drive. This means its either bad or not connected internally.
