I have high speed internet but ever since I downloaded the free trial version of ZoneAlarm Firewall with Antivirus my computer has been going unbelievably slow. Is there anything I can do to speed it up? Would turning off the antivirus component help?

That might be an option only if you have another AV to use in the place of Z/A's.

What exactly is slow? The performance of your computer, or the internet? I had an issue with P2P and ZA once.

Well I'm not really impressed with ZA's antivirus system...so I just tried disabling it for a while...and my computer still ran really slow. So I guess that doesn't work...

What are the system requirements for the software?
What type of system do you have?
Have you looked up your issue on the Zonealarm website?

Since it is a freebie, after trying all of that, I would be tempted to remove it.
Just make sure you have some protection on your computer.

Some applications seem to cause sluggishness on some versions of Windows or with some application configurations. If running scandisk, defragging, and checking your hard drive for spyware does not return your computer to its prior speed, then replace the two programs.
Cheers,
John

Thanx for the advice guys...I went ahead and uninstalled ZA w/antivirus because nothing seemed to help. I installed another ZA firewall and it is working fine.

Did you also put an anti-virus package on your computer.
If you are looking for another freebie AVG is pretty good.

Thanks.
