BleepingComputer.com: Australia to censor the Internet?

Hi all! The federal goverment of Australia is considering going down the path of internet censorship. Why I can understand why they may be thinking this way but censorship is not the way to go just more goverment policy's dictating what we can and can't access.

Why can't parents take control of what their children can or can not access on the net? Why do governments need to think they are the only ones that can do this?

Just where have you been for the past 20 years? Fred Nile has flogged a dead Horse for all that time through many Governments in this Country about topless Bathers, it is just a Joke here. Our Sheilas have magnificent Natural Boobs, no Aussie wants to miss out on that!

As for the Net? Suggest you look at who put that in as Law? It was not the Current Government.

Then look at Laws being put in place in your Country by the outgoing Government to Hassle the incoming one? That is not allowed in Australia.

I think both Countries voted fairly, just some differences in outgoing Governments?

I would not mind if they censored viruses,malware and spam.

Monty007 is right censorship starts in the home, because "what's one person's trash is another person's treasure". And there is so many other things to consider. Who will be doing the censoring? What is this persons beliefs? Etc.

Governments *cough* [Special Interest Groups] *cough* are good about drawing lines in the sand. Then we think ok I can compromise with that until one day you look back and there are so many lines in the sand that you don't even know where you began :S

It is a very frightening scenario...

Be careful how you vote. There some out there that will let you do any thing and think any thing as lone as they okay it.

Censorship leads to a division between good guys and bad guys. "Bad guys" become the ones who go after the information. Each of these polar opposites takes a position which is based in opinion and then solidify it into ruts.

People just don't want to raise their own kids.

Years ago, when my Daughter was 11, I allowed her onto the Net, under the Proviso that she was not to interact with 16/18 year old Males, or older.

She got quite a Shock when I showed her why I had Banned her from the Net? I could show her copies of emails she had sent? BTW, I have never used a "Parental Control Program", just Common Sense.

She has never forgotten that. She is now 18 and Loves her Dad.

It really is up to Parents that Care for their Kids.

Mon and Dad are the best security. It's a must. There are parental controls on most internet security programs but they don't replaced Mom and Dad but do help.

You really know if anyone would Dare to Censor the Net, it could well be an Aussie?

Censor the Internet? Inconceivable.. I cannot imagine how that could be done really. How could "someone" gain control of the whole Web to censor it? It boggles my mind. lol
