Please, can somebody assist me. When I try to log into vista normal mode all I get is 'Please Wait' where the 'welcome' logo used to be and it just sits there saying "Please Wait . . . ." forever. When I could login to safe mode I enable the verbose command and restarted and tried normal mode again and it would say "Please wait for the Local Session Manager . . ." and never get past that screen. Now, for some reason, I cannot even log into any safe mode options. After the safe mode drivers load, the computer just hangs at crcdisk.sys after it's loaded and not proceed. So, then I tried to boot to the cd to use the repair utility and my computer won't even acknowledge it, it just takes to me the three safe mode options. In the past I could boot to the cd and use the repair disk and now I can't. Please don't tell me I am screwed. I have so much valuable info that I would really not want to lose. So if anybody can please help me to try and resolve this, I would be greatly appreciative. Thnx

How do you normally boot from your DVD? Is there a key you must press in order to select the boot drive?
Also, what's the exact make and model of your system?

Thanks for the reply. I have to push the F12 button during startup to access the boot menu and select the cd-rom option to use the disc. I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop, vista home basic 32 bit, and as far as the specifications, I'll try to remember correctly. I think it has an AMD processor 3500 + 2.0 ghz and about 896 mb of ram.

Well, there's several things you can do. The first is to check your Event Viewer to see what error messages are reported around the time that you get the Local Session Manager message.

To do this, go to Start and type in "eventvwr.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter
Click on the Windows logs entry in the left hand pane, then on the System log that's just below it.
Scroll down by time until you get to the time around when the error occurred - then note any error messages around then.
Then do the same thing for the Application log.

Post the results back here and we'll move on from there.

The R300 in the first error may be the culprit - it most likely belongs to the driver for an Epson printer. Do you have one of those installed? If so, uninstall it and see if that fixes your problem. If it does, then download a new copy of the driver from the Epson website and install it.

In the event that this may refer to your video chipset, you should uninstall your video drivers in the Control Panel...Programs applet and reboot to see if that fixes it. If so, then visit the website of the manufacturer of your video chipset and download the latest copy of their approved video drivers.

Also, if you could go back to those errors and double click on them. In the window that opens, be sure you're on the General tab, then click on the copy button in the lower left of that window. That'll give an output that is a bit more understandable.

Thanks for replying. Well, I don't have a printer so I tried the next step and unistalled the video driver ATI Radeon xpress 1150 and installed the latest video driver from ATI for my model and still nothing. It still hangs on the welcome screen with the "Please Wait" message. So, I have gone back to the event log and here are the new errors (general tab):

Go to Start and type in "devmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Let us know if you find any devices with red x's or yellow !'s.

Beyond this, I'd have to suggest slaving the hard drive to another system so you can recover any data that's accessible.

Well, there are no devices that have any exclamations or red x's. But thanks anyway for all the effort.

Go to Start and type in "msinfo32" (without the quotes) and press Enter
Scroll down and look for any problems in the Hardware Resources section - and also look at the Problem Devices in the Components section.

I'm at a loss here. I'd suggest a repair install of Vista - but you'll need to be in Vista (normal mode) to do that.
Try running SFC.EXE /SCANNOW from the Command Prompt.

Beyond that you'll likely have to slave your hard drive to another system to back your stuff up - then reinstall Vista.

Good luck!

Well, that's not what I really wanted to have to do but like you said, I don't have any more options. So, I would like to thank you for taking the time to help me out. Much thanks.
