Yes for people like well i think you should go and leave the expert titles on people who have posted to help or topics of their own! Like if someone just posted in general and has expert or more and has never posted a helpful topic or tip then they should have their title put down to a new one you can devise! But the people who do post in general a lot but also post helpful topics and other help(like me!!!) on the other forums should have their record stay the same??......... I would hate to post things that help people for a long time and then my record go down to junior or something again. I dont know but something should be done!

The ranks here, as on all boards, go by the amounts of posts that you have, nothing else. Would be too dificult to do it otherwise.

The new titles will have no bearing on the expertise of the user, but rather the time spent on the board

I'm not completely sure how IPB board's ranks work (i did install IPB for a day on my server but only cuz i was curious) but on phpBB (my current forum) you can set certain ranks for posts made and special ranks like Admin, moderator or whatever you want which over rides the posts system. Can you not assign a rank to a group?. I have the "designer" rank at Net-Integration forums which uses IPB, or is that a modification which they've installed?

Well like i said i'm not use to IPB so i'm not much help on this.

Chief.

Hi again,
I just installed IPB on my server and you can assign special ranks/icons to groups and still have the pips for users. Click here to view

You mean like the ones the HJT team have?

How about ranks the progress through grades kinda like the student. Freshman Sophomore, etc. all the way up to PHD or Doctorate. And you could leave the expert out.

edit = typo.

CGM, I meant to say the rank will be based on the amount of posts.

CMJ, yeah I can override the title based on the user or group. You have been placed in the designer group which is why the title has been overridden.

The problem is that the vast majority of users are just members. So thats where the posts system comes in.

May I suggest "cluebie" between student and teacher? Sorta stretches out the "doing the homework phase" of developing towards being able to help others after receiving help ones's self. (I saw that definition at the top left corner of the board)

Someone listed in their signature the tutorials they had read. I liked that, and thought some recognition could be assigned to those who advance their understanding of what you, the mods & admin face each day you contribute your time here to help.

Of course, I'd like a graphic of the Statue of Liberty somehow worked in, now that HuckerJ's shortest political poll reveals I lean left. lmfao.gif

"give me your poor, your weakly configured, your unprotected by firewall users....."

Let Freedom Ring....unilaterally with intelligent administration, IMHO smile.gif

BTW, any unwieldy or nearly impossible to implement desires may be cheerfully thown into the recycle bin...the outta the question and no-can-do's may be over-written a dozen times. whistling.gif

Cluebie still represents a level of knowledge. I am trying to get rid of any reference to a persons knowledge that is based on the amount of posts you create.

Maybe I should just get rid of titles altogether and make everyone equal!!

I will think of some that are not related to expertise level and post when they are ready smile.gif

If you have suggestions that would suit that let me know. BC is formed on peoples suggestions so I love hearing them

Well the site name is bleepingcomputer.com, so do it on a theme of computers, say like a newbie could be called an Abacus, then calculator, then right up to Pentium P4......not these exact words but you catch my drift.
Or on evolution, start with amoeba and end with man or superman (just leave the ape part out of the middle or you may lose members LOL).

Just some suggestions,
Chief.

Drop post counts all together. HJT members, admins, and other special groups need a designation; does anybody else. 600+ posts does not mean one has contributed in any meaningful way whatsoever.....
