Just bought a sony vaio and I took it home to get on the internet. I attempted to use the wireless connection which the computer lists as having 4 out of 5 bars, however when I open explorer it takes 5 minutes to tell me it cannot connect. I then hardwired the computer to my router which was previously plugged into another computer that the internet worked fine on and again same problem.

Where should I start in terms of fixing this?

First thing to check for is that the wireless on/off switch is ON. probabaly located on th side or front.
How do I get help? Who is helping me?

The switch is on, even if it wasn't the computer still would not connect when it was plugged into the internet.

I don't know if there is any connection, but I have a SONY VAIO that my daughter gave me. It came loaded with IE6.0 installed. I use AOL 9.0 dial up. My pc runs Windows XP. I had no problem connecting and using AOL.
However, then I downloaded and installed IE 7.0. Then I could no longer connect to AOL. AOL software would dial and try to connect. The pc would just hang. So I uninstalled IE 7.0 and reinstalled IE 6.0 and everything works fine.
I tried downloading and installing 7.0 a second time and got the same result. So I went back to IE 6.0.
I talked to SONY support and they weren't interested in helping me. Maybe you would get better results because your computer is new.
I would be curious to know if you have a newer version than IE 6.0. AOL support suggested that there might be some conflict between my SONY pc and IE 7.0.
