How do you insert text into pictures? I tried following the tutorial for Win. XP, but I got confused.

I'm just learning The GIMP but basically I think all you need to do is open an image and click on the T in the main GIMP dialog - settings will appear where you can select font and size etc. Then click somewhere in the image and a 'GIMP Text Editor' window will open, where you type your text. OK that and the text appears in the image - you can drag it around to the right spot. The text is in a new layer so you can change its foregound/background position if you have multi-layer images. That should be it.
Let us know how you go. smile.gif
