Hello,
I am having fits with my DELL Dimension 4100. I am operating Windows Me and have been for about 3 yrs. Tried to open a new application (Quicken 2005) and received a message that I needed to upgrade IE and Me. So that was done and now the computer won't start, not even in safe mode. Started DOS from a floppy. Tried to re-install Me from a CD. The setup utility comes on and checks the hard drive. It's OK, and then it proceeds to run setup. 65% thru the files transfer an error comes up and says "SUWIN has caused a general protection fault in module VERX.DLL at 0002:24ae". It will not let me ingore the error and continue. I have to close setup and then I am back to square 1. I tried to "scanreg /restore" from the DOS prompt. It will let me choose a restore date, but I get error when it tries to continue. I tried to uninstall Me. I don't know if I was successful or not, but the next attempted setup of Me from the CD, it quit at 65% and gives the same error. Tried to delete the windows folder completetly. Same 65%, then error. (I forgot most of the DOS commands so I forgot how to delete folders in the windows directory.)

Anyway, could someone explain what I should do here? I would very much appreciate any HELP!
Thx.................

The Dos command is Deltree Windows. That will leave everything else intact. That assumes that %system root% is the Windows folder. You might be forced to do a format and reinstall.

If you are trying to reinstall without formating and you then get this error, you will need to format the drive and then reinstall.
