DJBPace : I installed a lot, new set of via, new realtek, new nvidia, new bios and a few more I forget. I used the excellent radarsync to just update me on what was old and installed all the new ones(Not as recommended, I sourced them myself). It's looking more and more like I need to re-install, I'm just dreading putting on all my development tools(sql2000, sql2005, VS2005, VS2008+SP1, Expression blend, Expression tools) and then reconfiguring it all again. My main worry is this is a problem with a newer version of a driver and a re-install will just replicate the problem, but I guess there's only one way to tell..

Ohh, and my system restore was for some odd reason disabled on my C drive, so I have nothing to go back too.

RandomUser : I have no expansion cards in my machine, beyond the graphics card.

Well, in the end I re-installed, I needed my PC to do some work so I had to do it. After re-installing I ran all the usual updates, and tried Supreme Commander(My guaranteed blue-screen), and it was OK. I installed the nvidia drivers from windows update, and blue screen in about 20 seconds after reboot. So I got rid of those, and started going backwards through the nvidia archive, and I got back to what would have been the drivers I used when my new graphics card was first installed, and it still died!!! So I went back through BIOS versions, one painful reboot at a time, until I hit 1.80, no blue screen but it did crash the game!! It's been up since 1AM last night, and it's still alive, just need to install portal tonight and give it a go.

Thanks for the help and suggestions all!

tonyenkiducx,

Glad to hear that some version of the bios fixed the issue. It still sounds like there's something weird about about this Bios and Chipset. And the graphics card thing. Had a friend that changed the IRQ and things worked but one shouldn't have to do that much to make it work.

None the less, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Cheers

It's still shagged unfortunately. The blue screens aren't as frequent in normal windows, but all 3D games either die or cause a blue screen eventually. I think I've had enough driver hopping though, and I will go back to XP until I can afford to ditch the mbrd and gfx card.

Asrock 4coredual SATA2 + geforce 7 series card = B.A.D

Cheers,
Tony.
