One day, my other laptop shut down out of nowhere and has been showing this message each time I turn on the computer.

"Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause."

It said the startup repair was recommended, which I did, but unfortunately, the startup repair does simply nothing. It just shows a black screen with the arrow cursor. When I select the other optiopn, which is "start windows normally", it ends up restarting back to the Windows Error Recovery Screen, and I am simply going in circles because both options do not work. Can anyone help me with this please? Thanks.

Hi andork892,

When it said the startup repair was recommended, did you try doing this with a disk? If not, see the following which will link you to instructions for creating a bootdisk.

Another possibility:

Do you have Acronis True Image? If so, look at this article: http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=167281

Startup/repair can take awhile to complete. Are you letting it finish?

Having grandkids is God's way of giving you a 2nd chance because you were too busy working your butt off the 1st time around
