i have been wanting to rebuild or build a new computer scene my brother bought a $7,000 computer from dell to prove i could build one exactly the same if not better with about $1,200. i have came down to finally going with vista i have always hated vista and have always had 98 or XP.
i want something i can over clock the hell out of...
i want something that has power....
i want something that can play any game i want...

You won't likely do much overclocking with that board. Look for a Gigabyte/Asus offering.

That chipset (X38) doesn't do SLI. Only the Intel X58 does SLI. Otherwise you need an Nvidia chipset for SLI.

Heat sink, not heat sync.

Get 2X2gig of ram vs 4X1gig.


500 watt power supply will not cut it.

That seems doable. By reusing your old 8800GTX, you're saving money. Below is a very good PC. The new i7 processors are very nice and I have configured the PC to use them.

Case: COOLER MASTER COSMOS 1000 RC-1000-KSN1-GP Black/ Silver Steel ATX Full Tower - This is an elegant computer case, there are cheaper models though. Large video cards require a large full tower case. $189.

Motherboard: ASUS P6T Deluxe/OC Palm LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard - This motherboard supports LGA 1366 processors, which is the brand new, and very fast, i7. This board supports both SLI and Crossfire. $338

Power Supply: CORSAIR CMPSU-1000HX 1000W - If you plan on using SLI or Crossfire, you're going to need all the power you can get. Corsair makes excellent power supplies. $259

CPU: Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor - This is the latest, although not most expensive version, out of Intel. Don't let the clock speed fool you, if you got one of the Core 2 Quads of the same speed, benchmarked it and the i7, the i7 would still be faster. There is no decent heatsink and fan available for it, so you're going to have to use the one that came with it, which isn't too bad. $294

RAM: G.SKILL 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM - The design of the motherboard requires RAM be installed in three's. This is a large amount of RAM. If you can afford it, get a second kit. Your motherboard will accept up to 24GB. $214

Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD6400AAKS 640GB - It's a big drive.... $74

Operating System: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit - You need a 64-bit OS to use more than 3.5GB of RAM. XP 64-bit is nowhere near as good as Vista 64-bit. $99

Optical Drive: LITE-ON Combo - Most people need simple drives. $19
