In the past, I've used DOS, Windows 98, and whatever my elementary/middle school had on their Apples. I've used XP on 5 separate computers (including on 2 that I've owned), and Vista on my mom's laptop. Of all of those, Win 98 was the worst.

I like my XP Media Center Edition desktop the best right now. Vista can be a pain at times, (yes, I DO want to copy/save/run that file, stop asking me!!!!), and 98 gave me ulcers from repeated crashes and blue screens of death (98 users will remember how one malfunctioning process would take down the entire system. Xp, just open the task manager and end process. Much. Better).

No plans to update to Vista. I have no need. I would like to try Linux one day, but only if I can figure out how to dual-boot into Windows; I'm not ready to go cold turkey just yet.

Edit: for spelling

Setting up a dual-boot with Linux/XP is so easy it's ridiculous! Here's a pretty good guide I found: http://apcmag.com/how_to_dual_boot_windows...alled_first.htm

Ubuntu (which is what I use, and is used in the guide above) takes care of the nitty gritty stuff (though you can go in and mess with the nitty gritty if you really want to!)

I highly recommend it!

My main computer runs 64-bit vista ultimate, while my secondary computer is running Windows 98SE. Vista 64-bit is flying now that I just installed 6gb of ram smile.gif .

I built this one computer for a Co worker. He paid for 8 Gigs. I Think when I first turned it on with its quad core this that and the third. I could have heard a faint voice saying . Hello Dave....... x_X

I was waiting for the red eyeball to pop up on the screen. I currently run 4Gigs of that DDR3 1333 which is whoo hoo smoking fast. 8 gigs was just overkill. Then again He wanted this machine to play games and have some security software for his house put on it. Apparently he could hook up sensors to his windows doors and digital record a camera he had mounted on the side of the house. So yeah. Your Cooking with not just any Gas stove. Hmm..I may want to look into that...I won't have the time once I eventually get a full-time job, so I'd better hurry.

And here I thought I got a decent deal with my little AMD X2 Athlon 5200+ and my pathetic 4 Gig ram running at 800MHz...

Actually I've just put Vista back onto my gf's laptop. I tried XP a while back, but there were no XP drivers for her network adapater, screen/monitor, and dvd drive. So I put Ubuntu on their after I got frustrated with XP and it worked great! The only problem I was having was Flash wouldn't work in ANY browser I was using. I tried Opera, ubuntu, ephiany, and many others. Then I decided to put Vista on here, because my gf was too afraid to give Ubuntu a try and I felt like Ubuntu was discouraging her from using her own laptop. lol So I ended up putting Vista, back on. I must say, it's not as bad as it seems now that it has 2GB of RAM in it, instead of the 512MB it had when it came preloaded with Vista Home Premium.
