I've been wondering about an update that I had uninstalled. Last year I was having trouble with my Windows XP Home. It started hanging and generally being really slow. I didn't know what to do. I happened onto an article in Intrigue Learning: The Learning Curve So, I followed it's advice and uninstalled the update 811493. I was happy becuse it fixed my problem. Xp was back. Ok, but now I'm wondering if I may have a security hole or something. So... anybody have any ideas? My latest updates installed without a problem. I'm just worrying if there's an underlying problem I'm not aware of. I hope I didn't post in the wrong place. I hope I did that link right too. -------------------- Do not anticipate trouble, or worry about what may never happen. Keep in the sunlight. ~ Benjamin Franklin |

Yeah I remember that. THey released a subsequent patch which fixed that problem. It can be found at :
This link which addressed that issue. You prob should not have any problems with this patch not on as the security hole only allowed a local user to raise their privileges, not a remote user. Wouldnt hurt seeing if you have it installed though. |

Hey thanks MrSnausage,
I'm glad somebody knew where I was at there LOL! I checked Windows Update and I didn't have any critical fixes. I'm Ok then. This has been bothering me and now I don't need to wonder about it. I guess I could follow my own signature's advice and not worry. LOL! -------------------- Do not anticipate trouble, or worry about what may never happen. Keep in the sunlight. ~ Benjamin Franklin |
