A couple of days ago, my roommate borrowed my laptop to transfer some music to his Ipod. From the the moment he plugged it in, Vista has been acting weird! Everytime I try to change a setting, windows explorer crashes, and everytime I close down Firefox, I get an error message saying that Firefox had to be closed down for security reasons! I have tried scanning EVERYTHING, but EVERYTHING is clean! I tried loading different system restore points, but it dosen't make any difference!

Now I really want to just format EVERYTHING and re-install Vista. I went to the store where I bought the machine, hoping to get my hands on a Vista install disc, but I was told they don't exist!
The clerk told me that I have to burn the disc myself, and that it's included in the computer. I just had to insert a blank cd and do something and the computer will burn the cd for me. I just forgot what I was supposed to do, so I decided I want it in writing! So here I am!

Can anyone help me?

I am running:
Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit

What is the exact make and model of your system?

Oh, yeah! Forgot!

Model is Acer Aspire 6920, but what do you mean by "make"?

Make is Acer
Model is Aspire 6920

As I recall, most Acers have that eRecovery thing that floats on the desktop. Access it and there'll be an option for making the recovery disks.

Of interest, exactly WHICH scans have you run to check for possible infections?

May we see any reports from them you have to check for you?

I did every single scan that Bitdefender Total Security 2009 can offer! They're all clean! Oh noes!

Since you can't create the recovery disks you'll have to contact Acer to see if they can supply you with Recovery DVD's for your system.

I contacted Acer... three months ago... and they haven't replied! Is there no way I can do this on my own? I think they're ignoring me!

You're either going to have to get more "firm" with Acer - or purchase/obtain a copy of Vista on your own.

Where can I get a copy of Vista? Everywhere I go I'm told that Vista disks don't exist. This CD-free recovery c*** is the worst idea ever...

You can purchase a copy of Vista online or from your local electronics retailer - but it'll be much, much more expensive than a copy from Acer.

Ok, I got a CD! Hurrah! What do I do now? Should I just insert it?
