I use Windows Home Server to backup my computers. I also use the free utility SyncToy to copy data between PCs, so that would also be part of my backup plan.
What would be the most devastating loss of data (ie. pictures, email, music, etc) for you, if your hard drive failed or the data was deleted?
email would be my number 1 loss, as that is only local. Pictures and videos are mostly local, but the most important ones to me are on one or more web servers. There are a few miscellaneous files that would be a real problem to lose. Music is pretty much able to be replaced, though it would be a pain to do so.
How would this prize package help you?
One can never have too much storage available to them! The portable drive would allow me to keep new and changed files backed up when I'm on the road with the laptop.

I don't currently have an external drive, so I burn important data to DVDs.
What would be the most devastating loss of data (ie. pictures, email, music, etc) for you, if your hard drive failed or the data was deleted?
Pictures of my family and my mp3s.
How would this prize package help you?
I would definitely follow a weekly (if not daily) backup schedule and feel more at ease that my most important data is protected.

Pretty random backups to my research group's external hard drive, since my personal one is full!
What would be the most devastating loss of data (ie. pictures, email, music, etc) for you, if your hard drive failed or the data was deleted?
My dissertation! I am hoping to graduate next summer after 7 years in grad school so losing data from my experiments or the many pages I have already written would be devastating!
How would this prize package help you?
Like I mentioned, my EHD is full and right now I am completely inappropriately using my research groups drive to back things up. While much of this is justified (all my work stuff), I really don't want to be leaving all my photos on a work drive!

2) The greatest data loss would be the loss of my blog's data. I had been blogging for 2 years and everyday, I collect new items every day. If all the backup failed I would have to start all over.
3) Wow! the prize package is cool. No more Lost DVD's and the guarantee from SEAGATE.. thats damn cool man.

- What is your current backup plan for your computer?
- What would be the most devastating loss of data (ie. pictures, email, music, etc) for you, if your hard drive failed or the data was deleted?
- How would this prize package help you?
1. The plan? If it is important I make sure I manually store it in more than one place. I was lucky enough to get a box of 4GB memory sticks for cheap of eBay. So I put photos, music and emails on these (a fair number of these) and try to use free online storage for none sensitive data.
2. I've lost data before and I have a whole 2 years of my virtual life gone, so I know everything is important.
3. Not having to shuffle a whole bunch of memory around to find what I want would be brilliant

Worst loss?-my new age MP3 collection because I have so many rare and unusual ones.
What would I do if I won? Set up a backup on my wife's PC. She's a nursing professor and it's taken years to wean her off floppies, so setting up an auto backup would be a huge stress reliever for me down the road.

I back up important files to a removable flash drive, we haven't done the whole hard drive in quite a while.

If I would lose the project data I did in school it would probably be a disaster for me. I did so many things in school and there was so many I was able to learn in after school activities. I programmed a lot and designed a lot in this time. The knowledge helped me a lot in various other situations. If I'd lose that I would have to start all over.
How would this prize package help you?
It would increase the backup capacity I have.

I currently use Mozy's free client to keep the most critical files backed up, but only the most critical
What would be the most devastating loss of data (ie. pictures, email, music, etc) for you, if your hard drive failed or the data was deleted?
All of my pictures would be a horrible loss. As would my backups of system files and website files that are too big to go on mozy.
How would this prize package help you?
Easy. The drives would give me the ability to back up the files off of my desktop and onto another device (or devices) so that if one of them crashed, I would have the files readily available to save my butt and restore with.

I don't have a real back up plan. Have pics burned to cd and some other important info on a memory stick. Like I said not much of a back up plan. I need to work on it.
*Most devastating loss if hard drive failed:
Definitely would be the loss of pictures. Can't get those back, lots of memories.
*How would this prize package help me:
Force my hand to actually start a back up program at home. Obviously save some money on the purchase price, got one starting college, need all the help I can get.
Thanks, Submike

Most of my pictures are also online so that isn't quite as big a deal but I would be devastated if I lost some of those old ones. Mainly I would be screwed if I lost all of my music. I could never afford to re-buy it all and even if I put on my eyepatch and peg leg it would take forever to rebuild that collection.
