My current backup plan:
I use an external 25gb Western Digital hard drive and I back up any irreplaceable data at least once a week, and reformat my hard drive at least once a year. Anything that runs over the 25gb mark, I write onto single-layer DVDs.

Most devastating loss:
Losing all of the games I have installed along with patches, addons, and saves.

How this hard drive could help me:
I would be able to backup everything on a single directory, and easily restore all lost files if I had to reformat prematurely.

My current backup method is pretty weak... I wrote a simple script that makes an archive of my whole system, minus certain directories. I wrote another that extracts the files. It probably isn't very safe, and it mostly only backs up system files because I don't have enough space!

Ironically, the worst would be the loss of everything in my home folder... The part that isn't backed up. All of my school projects and media are in there.

So, if I won I could use that to backup everything, and I wouldn't need to worry. Not that I do, but perhaps that is a mistake since I've lost a lot of data from a failing HD before. I need some better software as well. I wish there were a TimeMachine-like program for Windows and Linux. =/

My current backup is a 120 GB external USB drive and I backup whenever I remember or make a change.

What would I miss the most...my pictures - I have thousands. My husband just passed away (Oct 15) we were married for 21 years - so the pictures of him and our kids are very precious. I think I will make another backup tonight. My kids would miss the iTunes library. Of course there are school papers and other important documents too.

How would this help? I would run a regular backup instead of just when I remember to do it.

1. Current Backup Plan:
I use an external 500 GB drive to backup the files on my computer. I try to backup once a week using Windows Backup. Once a month I also make a disk image.

2. Most Devastating Loss:
I have about 50 GB of photos that I have taken over a 10-year period that I have taken, and would be devastated if I lost them. I also have files related to work, finances, and e-mail that I would have a difficult time replacing. I have some CD's with archived files, but I currently have only one main backup storage disk.

3. This prize package would help me:
By allowing me to always keep one image off-site, and backup a notebook computer for my wife.

Thanks,
Grady Beachum

My backup plan for my computer is a bit complicated...I have no image made yet, so I have my os dvd's, and all my software to be installed on an external hdd, ironically a seagate freeagent 500gb. As for files I try to throw them on my portable 2.5" esata drive when I can, just in case something would happen to my laptop. I would preferably like more storage and maybe a better backup setup than my current one.

The most tragic thing for me if my hdd crashed would be losing my portfolio of graphic design work, which is my key to impressing clients, losing all my pictures of my family, and my music. The response to such a tragedy would be the fetal position with much crying.

This prize package would help me in the sense that I would feel more inclined, with the additional space, to make a backup and come up with a better means of backing up my important files.

Once again, thanks for the opportunity.

Foldershare is my first level protection against loss, but USB hard drives are my second level of protection, so winning this contest this would be a great help to me there.

For me the only really devasting loss would be my photos; work stuff can be recreated.

I'm lucky to not have exprerienced a loss to date.

What is your current backup plan for your computer?

-- Emailing my files to my gmail account every now and then.

What would be the most devastating loss of data (ie. pictures, email, music, etc) for you, if your hard drive failed or the data was deleted?

-- My novel-in-progress.

How would this prize package help you?

-- It would give me peace of mind that all my files are secure.

What is your current backup plan for your computer?

I currently only have space to backup my documents and a few other directories.
I do burn some items to CDs, but it is a pain searching through the CDs to refind the data when I need it.

What would be the most devastating loss of data (ie. pictures, email, music, etc) for you, if your hard drive failed or the data was deleted?

My biggest lost would be my pictures and Old Time Radio shows

How would this prize package help you?

I would be able to back up all my files into a format that would be easy to research.

What is your current backup plan for your computer?

Right now I store what I can on DVD's and the like, so that I can use them later. Time consuming, but at least it's a solid backup.

What would be the most devastating loss of data (ie. pictures, email, music, etc) for you, if your hard drive failed or the data was deleted?

I do a ton of Photoshop work and music making...if I lost my backups and my hard drive failed, I'd lose years of music and other projects, along with the projects of my girlfriend. It wouldn't be a huge monetary loss, but the amount of time and effort we've put into all of it would...well, we'd probably cry if we lost all of that.

How would this prize package help you?

It would make things easier for us! Having a solid backup on a Seagate external HDD would keep everything in one place and ensure we could do regular backups at any time. It'd be a great addition to our systems really.

I burn the permanent files that I receive or make to dvd, leaving it open until I get close to the limit. I have daily backups with MozyHome Remote Backup. I backup permanent files, for convenient retrieval and use, to a Maxtor 100 gig external hard drive.

Actually very little of the above since I keep most pictures, email, and copies of music and active files in one of the backups. But my Maxtor drive is only a 100 gigs and a few years old; I need a new one. I originally wanted two external hard drives to alternate them kept in bank storage (I go there every day anyway.), but couldn't afford.

What is your current backup plan for your computer?

I use Norton Ghost to backup my OS to a seperate harddrive and I keep a copy on a networked computer. I burn DVD of my pictures and music

What would be the most devastating loss of data (ie. pictures, email, music, etc) for you, if your hard drive failed or the data was deleted?
Pictures and Music for sure.

How would this prize package help you?
I could keep a backup copy of everything, Ghost Images, all my music and picture files, and still have room to add to it.
Oh and I could look super cool with a shiny colorful new drive and brag to my friends lol

Right now I have no back up plan for my computer because I can't afford an external HD. I'm waiting for my pay check (the job I have we get one every 3 months)

The most devastating loss of data for me would be music. Not e-mail because I can access that anywhere, not pictures because I don't have a camera to take any but music. I have a very solid collection of music.
I have already had a hard drive fail. A month ago actually. Lost everything, nothing could be recovered. The HD in the computer was toast.
All of my brothers, sisters and dads pictures, music and school work was wiped out. We had to start fresh with nothing, it sucks.

The package would help save me and my family money.
We wouldn't need to buy an external hard drive.
I would have extra memory and a backup copy of all the important stuff so if we ever experience a hard drive failure again, we are more prepared.

What is your current backup plan for your computer?

Up until recently, I had been doing all my backups on a 500gb external hard drive. After having my computer crash on me and loosing all my data, I decided that I would save up some money to buy it so I wouldn't have to go through that again. Alas, a few weeks ago a malfunction occurred in my external hard drive, leaving me without any form of backup.

What would be the most devastating loss of data (ie. pictures, email, music, etc) for you, if your hard drive failed or the data was deleted?

The most devastating loss would have to be my documents for college. I do all my research and write everything out on my computer so I usually don't have any hard copies made. If I were to lose that info I would be screwed. Not to mention tons of personal pictures and items with sentimental value.

How would this prize package help you?

This product will help me immensely by providing me with a secure and easy way to store my files. Being the size that it is, I will not have to abide by the limitations of thumb drives. Also, it will allow me to transfer files in a fast fashion, saving me alot of time when I need to work on a different desktop.
