What is your current backup plan for your computer?

at work it is automated, if you put your data in a share drive, but at home I do not have one and I know I really need to get one. I have genealogy work that dates over 20 years and photographs that cannot be replaced.

What would be the most devastating loss of data (ie. pictures, email, music, etc) for you, if your hard drive failed or the data was deleted?

My most devastating loss of data would be my music, my photographs and my genealogy work . It has taken me a long time to rip all of my cds and records. The pictures date to last century and are very hard to find again. The genealogy has been work that has been done over the last century by the different family memners. All of this is precious to me..

How would this prize package help you?

I would actually be able to safeguard my information and backup everuthing that is important to me on an external drive.

What is your current backup plan for your computer?
Currently I backup my files on DVDs, but over the years my family and I have accumulated such a large amount of files it is becoming difficult to store everything on DVDs. Everytime it's taking us between 3 - 5 DVDs to store our data.

What would be the most devastating loss of data (ie. pictures, email, music, etc) for you, if your hard drive failed or the data was deleted?
If my hard drive failed or the data was deleted, we will lose a lot of creative data and business data. My mom and I have a small business and we keep our databases and accounting histories in the hard drive. It would be an accounting nightmare if we lost that data! Not to mention the customer database that we have established. We also have the photos for all our original items and it would be extremely costly to have to re-shoot everything, in terms of time and money.

How would this prize package help you?
The prize package would make it more convenient and easy to store/ backup the valuable data on our computer. It will certainly make it easier to retreive everything since the harddrive has such massive storage. And from an organization standpoint, it'll definitely be better than going through piles of DVDs hoping I've picked up the right one with the files I'm looking for on it.

Thanks for this amazing contest!

  • My current backup plan is backing up to an external drive and also writing them to cd disk.
  • The most devastating loss for me would be my art work as I am a business graphic/logo designer and 3-d world and web designer.
  • This prize package would help me backup the terrabytes of data I already have, 3-d manipulation and storage is naturally quite immense.

I backup my pictures to Flickr and other files to Amazon S3 using Jungle Disk.
The worst loss would be my financial data and music.
I have lots of music and pictures to back up which would be easier to backup to an external drive instead of a broadband connection.

What is your current backup plan for your computer?

I burn some CD and DVDs as a back up for essential information and now and then. It is really archaic as it doesn't' lend itself to being found easily. And then you have stacks and stacks of Cd's that you're afraid to throw away.

What would be the most devastating loss of data (ie. pictures, email, music, etc) for you, if your hard drive failed or the data was deleted?

All of it has value to me. My pictures and music and some video I shot have all taken a hit from some recent crashes. I also would lose years worth of resumes and cover letters. Since I have several irons in the fire so to speak and not one set career, I need to have several industry types tailored to whatever opens up. The right phrase can earn you an interview.

How would this prize package help you? One final backup and in one place. I could get rid of stacks of Cd's that have incomplete info and stop having my files all over the place. It could be one solution and in one place.

“What is your current backup plan for your computer?”

So before external drives became popular I bought a cd burner so I could burn pictures, word doc etc… to cd’s. This worked for a while, but the cheap external cd burner I bought a few years ago has since stopped working, so I am actually in the market for an external drive :flowers:

”What would be the most devastating loss of data (ie. pictures, email, music, etc) for you, if your hard drive failed or the data was deleted?”

Photos…. With the wonderful technology of digital cameras, comes an easy chance for a life time of photos to be lost. I lost photos once… pictures of my son growing up, pictures from my wedding, first anniversary spent at Niagara Falls etc.. lost a lot of collage work I had on there, but that nothing in comparison to a life time of memories.

”How would this prize package help you?”

It would allow me to have the means to back up my data, and avoid loss of my valuable pictures

(1)What is your current backup plan for your computer?

Currently I don't really back up. On occassion I've backed up to thumb drive. I've been thinking about this lately as there are many things I'd hate to lose. I use to back up to floppy, but my current pc doesn't have a floppy drive.

(2) What would be the most devastating loss of data (ie. pictures, email, music, etc) for you, if your hard drive failed or the data was deleted?

It would be most devastating to lose the pictures I have on my computer because those are memories that I cherish. I'd hate to lose my email and my most important personal/business documents too.

(3)How would this prize package help you?

This prize would first of all make me very thankful to have, as reading this contest has brought to mind even more the fact that I stand to lose a lot if I lose what is on my computer. The external device would help me be a lot more responsible and it would of course save my files should anything cause my computer to crash or be corrupted.

Thank you for the support you offer,I've read a lot of the topics and resposnes. Thank you for contests too!

Backup? Due to the age of all my equipment I had the spread any important documents amongst the three aging computers that we have. I am nearly out of space, there are several thousand family photos dating back to the 70's, which takes up lots of room. One reliable point of backup would be great. We've tried burning cd's and dvd's but they go bad after a few years, and one or two scratches and they can be gone.

Clearly loosing the photos and home videos would be devastating to me personally, my butt would be quite sore from my wife kicking it. Nearly everything else could be easily replaced.

The prize package would allow me to breath and not worry about the old power grid here. We get a lot of fluctuations in the neighborhood due to the age of the lines, which has killed one UPS already. An external HDD with it's own UPS for the entire network would be fantastic.

My current backup plan on my computer is that I back it up with cd's and a flash drive. I have the same data on both of them to make sure it does not get lost. I also have a network that I can back it up onto. I backup my data about three or four times a week.

I would be most devastated if my music was lost becuase I listen to it a lot and enjoy it.

This prize package would help me with backing up my data more often and I would appreciate if something every happened to my data that it would not be lost. This would also be helpful becuase I travel a lot and I could bring all my data around where every I go.

My back-up is a 3yr. old 74 gb external hard drive. I bought it after my hard drive crashed and I lost everything. Now I back-up everything every month or so. I particularly hated that I lost financial info and programs I had purchased on-line and downloaded.

What is your current backup plan for your computer?

My current plan is a lot of other half-started plans. I own a Linksys NSLU2 that I have attached one ext. drive to, which I have only started to use (with no set plan in place). I also own a Netgear SC101, which I started to use, but I've already had a drive mirror fail and that was AFTER I read all the bad reviews of this product. I've got a hand-me-down server that I'm trying to build/setup - but my free time has been rare due to being unemployed and looking for work (as of last week, I'm not gainfully employed - but that just means I'm still busy).

What would be the most devastating loss of data (ie. pictures, email, music, etc) for you, if your hard drive failed or the data was deleted?

Pictures, email, music, etc. - They would all be devastating to me. The pictures, because I now have an eleven month old daughter and those memories are important to me. Email - because I have important ideas/conversations there. Music - because I've accumulated a lot of it over the years. Small losses of any of those would hurt, large amounts of any of those would be akin to a disaster.

How would this prize package help you?

My "dream" plan is to establish a structured, reliable plan for data redundancy. A FreeAgent bundle would definitely help with that...I could use the NSLU2 - have the 1TB as the primary drive, use the 500GB as the backup.

Spencer

1. What is your current backup plan for your computer?

I currently rely on my CD's for back up . They usually get scratched or lost . I have many important things on my comp and dont have the money to buy
an external hdd or a DVD writer as i am a student. Right now nothing else seems to work .

2. What would be the most devastating loss of data (ie. pictures, email, music, etc) for you, if your hard drive failed or the data was deleted?
THAT would be terrible as I have many childhood photos and videos . Before they were on floppys and that almost got corrupt . So i decided to copy
them onto my only 10 yr old comp . Now i am afraid that it might die on me http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/sty...default/sad.gif

3. How would this prize package help you?
It would defiantly help me as I can store all my files from my 10 yr old comp (almost as old as me ) and store my memories forever (thats why hard
drive have memory right?)It would be great so I dont lose all my family photos from around the world and videos too (trying to squeeze onto a 7.2 gb
hard drive right now )I could also store my 10 yr old software worth alot to me .
