I want to use my old HD for storage.

To do this how do I need to format it?

Jumper settings?

It would not boot up, just for storage.

If it's SATA, you don't have to worry about jumper settings.

Various possibilities if PATA, depending on where you connect and jumper settings for other drives.

System manufacturer or motherboard manufacturer...and model?

Formatting a hard drive is always the same, regardless of what the drive is used for.
