I have jst installed the above drive & have read in order to enable SATA 300 mode I need to use the Hitachi Drive Feature Tool. I downloaded the .iso & burned to CD-R, but it scans for IDE devices but does not detect my drive???

Am I to assume it will only run in 150 mode?

The hard drive you mentioned...is a 300 SATA drive.

I fail to see where any adjustment is required for it to perform as such, as long as the motherboard supports SATA II speeds.

Did you install the SATA drivers for that motherboard?

I have migrated cases & may of damaged mobo in the process. Plugging into different SATA port & rerunning Hitachi's tool I managed to detect drive this time. Though after all that I'm not clear if it was set to 1.5 by default or not? Still set to 3.0 now. I did see several websites that stated you needed to run tool to set the drive up. You can also enable spread spectrum clocking which I'm not sure my main board supports? So left it off.

From your link, I see where you got the idea.

But...I would remember that this interview was written in 2005, when the drive was brand new and SATA II drive speeds were not the norm.

Things have changed and I would guess that the default setting for drives sold as SATA II is now 300Gb/sec.

If users had been forced to make an "adjustment" to achieve advertised speeds with Hitachi drives...and such adjustments were not needed by other drives of the same category...I think we would have heard about it by now, in a very negative manner.

But that's just idle speculation, nothing based on fact.

OK, I guess I was barking up the wrong tree. I obviously overlooked the date. Still it did not detect the drive, even though it booted Windows fine from that disk. Maybe the connection was not pushed home enough?
