I fail to see where any adjustment is required for it to perform as such, as long as the motherboard supports SATA II speeds.
http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/down...r_Guide_211.pdf This looks to be Hitachi's version of a disk diagnostic tool...that tool is not needed at the moment.

It says here that drive is set to 1.5 by default.

But...I would remember that this interview was written in 2005, when the drive was brand new and SATA II drive speeds were not the norm.
Things have changed and I would guess that the default setting for drives sold as SATA II is now 300Gb/sec.
If users had been forced to make an "adjustment" to achieve advertised speeds with Hitachi drives...and such adjustments were not needed by other drives of the same category...I think we would have heard about it by now, in a very negative manner.
But that's just idle speculation, nothing based on fact.
