Hi

I need to do several driver updates but i was wondering if there are any free sites that scan ur hardware and give links to direct sites that u can download latest driver upgrades. I tried loads but they scan ur pc then get u to pay before u can click.

Are places like PCPITSTOP worth the value if there are no free sites???

Generally speaking...there is no reason in the world...to want to download the latest driver updates for hardware...if your system is working fine.

IMO, users should update drivers with the same approach many of us have for updating the BIOS...if it ain't broke, why break it?

Updated drivers are produced by vendors...primarily because new equipment has been sold which requires the newer drivers. A secondary reason for producing new drivers is to overcome known hardware problems or provide additional function to a device not otherwise previously possessed.

That leaves those persons who update drivers constantly...doing so unnecessarily and with no gain of any sort.

Louis

There are a few different types of drivers that should be updated if you are a power user, mainly the graphics card. Less so with the sound card. If you're just a standard user, there is little need to update drivers. If you have Windows, it will download new drivers every now and then, that is more than adequate for most users.
