The deifinition lines for malware are blurred so much now that those two terms really mean nothing anymore. All the nasties cross the boundaries of categorization. So that question really is moot.

I wouldnt' go so far as to say MBAM is god.... that's a bit of a stretch. But it's better than Ad-Aware... which really doesn't say much though.

I would say that MBAM is especially good at removing malware. Most AVs and other programs have a hard time with active infections.

So are you saying that Spybot is better than MBAM?
Spybot is an old program that has been around for a while. It's not one of those new programs out there anymore. Well, not anymore.
MBAM's scan is fairly quick to, which I personally like. Please do not use MBAM as your On-Access scanner, unless you are using the full-version which has real-time protection. I would say you will still need an Anti-virus program. Its more of a malware scanner, which scans for malware. Malware to me is considered categorized big because it is anything that:

There are other scanners out there that scans for other categories such as viruses, spywares etc... MBAM also is good at taking out rogue infections and also some vundos which most scanners can't. My AVG did a bad job cleaning some registry keys called "trojan.fake alert" while MBAM cleaned out everything.
