I used CCleaner a week or so ago, but will do so again for good measure. BTW: What is the issue with registry cleaners? I've used TuneUp Utilities product for several years after major uninstalls without problems. I always inspect entries before accepting them, and uncheck entires that I am unfamiliar with or uncertain about. However yours is not the first comment I've seen about not using one.
Is there a good article/post about them on BC that I should read?

I too have used registry cleaners (the one in CCleaner) without issue, however I could eventually have a major problem because of it.
here is a short, to the point post about them.
What I've gathered from the posts and articles on this site, is that each registry cleaner has its own database of what it considers "safe" to delete/remove from the registry. If it deletes something that you actually need, then you are SOS unless you have backed up your registry and have system restore on. (Both of which you should do always do before making any changes to the registry). You should only clean your registry as a last resort and/or if you are are receiving error messages constantly about not being able to locate a file that you uninstalled. I am not going to try and act like I know exactly why not to use them, but that is the best explanation I can give.
