Hello everyone

About a month ago this message appear in my laptop when I powered up:

"Smart Failure Predicted on Hard Disk 2
Warning: Immediately back up your data and replaced you hard disk drive. A failure may be imminent.
Press F1 to continue"

I am being using like this for over a month now everyday and nothing happen yet.

How you disable this message? Is driving me nuts.....

I've just googled your problem and this came up:

Quote

This is usually an indication that the drive is about to fail just as it says, sometimes the drive will work for a small amount of time.

You might want to back up your data then use another hard drive. Since your computer is a laptop, you probably have to replace it soon.

Or, you can just turn off the warnings in the computer BIOS.

More info about SMART Failure:

Quote

SMART monitors and records the change in certain drive characteristics over time such as spin up time, read errors, power on cycles, etc. to determine how much wear and tear the drive has on it and assigns each a value. It then compares your drive’s values to a database of failure rates to predict when it will wear out. So it doesn’t actually test the drive in the true sense of the word. Based on that, the error message implies that there isn’t necessarily anything wrong with your drive at this moment but statistics show most drives in this condition fail soon-replace it.

Where in the Bios a can disable it? I try but nowhere to be found.

I already did a backup over a month but I think is not wise to replace now when still going....

I'm not really sure since there's different ways for different PC's. How about asking it in the forums?

A SMART failure is a prediction that the drive is going to die. There is no way of telling when it's going to die - that's why the message recommends that you replace the hard drive. If you continue using it, the drive will die on you - and it won't care if you're in the middle of something or not. So all that's on it will be lost (unless you back it up).

To turn the warning off, you'll either have to access your system's BIOS to see if it's there, or you'll have to consult the web site of the hard drive manufacturer.

are you sure its an MX8754? cus they dont list that model number anywhere on their site, not even in the legacy section...

Google also has never heard of a Gateway MX8754

All hardrive will die anyway. Laptop or computer is not forever. I will use it in my own risk, I do understand that but in the mid time I think is wise to use it until die.

I went to the BIOS setup and there is not a place to turn it off.

Thanks

If there's no setting in the BIOS then you won't be able to turn the warning off.

Keep your backups updated in order to minimize the loss when the drive finally dies.
