This Wikipedia article:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malwarebytes%27_Anti-Malware

says that the program is "distributed as shareware by Malwarebytes" while another part says it is freeware. Is it freeware or shareware?

Hello.

That would be debatable. It's freeware in the sense that you can use it for free forever. But the realtime protection requires pay.

I'm going to edit that article as it's not an "antivirus".

The Panda

I would say that it is shareware as it is retaining functionality until the user has paid to unlock the protection module. Its a great tool with and without the protection module.

I think it's Shareware.

Freeware is software that costs nothing whereas shareware usually means that you pay for the whole thing but get a limited service for free to trial it.

MBAM's main program is free but the whole package is paid-for. Therefore: shareware

Since most freeware spyware protection has a paid component, that means they're all technically shareware. Isn't it true that Malware Bytes used to actually be shareware and they changed it about a year ago to freeware with a paid component?
