Whenever I start my computer, the loading bar that appears on the starting keeps going forever. It says often when it does switch on "COM surrogate has stopped working". I cleaned the inside of the CPU but this didn't help much. Luckily it started now and I am able to come here for help. Could you please help me? This is getting very annoying!

P.s. I can get on to my computer ALWAYS in safe mode. But then I can't connect to the net.

Sorry! We try to get to everyone in a timely fashion, but sometimes things slip through the cracks. I apologize for the delay and will do my best to help iron out this issue.

First tho', can you connect to the internet when you select "Safe Mode with Networking"?
What is the make and model of your system?
Do you have a 32 bit or 64 bit version of Windows installed on the computer (to find this out, go to Start...Control Panel...System and Maintenance...System... and check the System category on this Window for "System type".

As an attempt to fix this rapidly, I'd suggest updating your video drivers. This is the most common cause for this sort of error, but we'll need more information to ensure that it's the correct diagnosis.

So, please go to Start and type in "perfmon /report" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Let us know of any errors/warnings that it finds
Then go to Start and type in "reliability" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Click on Reliability Monitor in the left hand pane and let us know what errors you find in the right hand pane.
Finally, go to Start and type in "eventvwr.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Click on the + sign by Windows logs in the left hand pane. Then click on System log file and check for errors around the time that you get the error message - then do the same thing for the Application log file.

My first guess is an infection. Try a couple of these free, online scans: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/blogs/usas...?showentry=1252

If you're not infected, then I'd suspect the XVID codecs next - and would uninstall them to see if the problem goes away. You can find more info on them here: http://www.xvidmovies.com/faq/

Yah, I would second the xvid idea, I had windows problems and solutions repeatedly tell me that the xvid codecs from klite were causing massive errors (even bluescreens sometimes) i got rid of them and the problem has since disappeared.

Im still getting the COM surrogate message. Also the computer takes its own sweet time to start up. I have uninstalled the codecs and re-installed windows.
