Hi I have an eMachines t2792 that came with the program Bigfix. I reformatted my computer in 2006 after a virus crashed Windows and that was the last time it provided me with any fixlets, so as far as I am concerned it is just wasting space on my computer. Is Bigfix a necessary program or would I be safe to remove it? I have antivirus, a firewall (although at the moment, not the best of ones), and several anti-spyware programs; I keep Windows and all of my programs updated regularly.

Thanks!

BigFix falls into the category of bloatware-those pesky things are inserted into off-the-shelf computer systems. As such, it is NOT necessary. Uninstall it if you don't want it.

What is BigFix?

You state "I have antivirus, a firewall (although at the moment, not the best of ones)". What antivirus and firewall are you using?

Good. I would have kept it, but it hasn't done anything in over 2 years, so I figure why keep it? It'll give me an extra 6.5MB.

Well, I have faith in my antivirus (I have Avira), but I still only have the Windows Firewall, set to no exceptions allowed. I tried Comodo, but it was too intrusive for me and I kept it on my computer for quite a while and it was still not adjusting to anything. It was still popping up constantly, asking me to allow this or block that, so eventually I uninstalled it. I'm pretty new to learning about firewalls, so Comodo was a nightmare. I tried Online Armor as well and I really did like that, but I can't remember why I uninstalled it. It wasn't the program itself, but I think I kept having problems every time I went to shut down my computer and it was only after I installed it that it started and it stopped when I uninstalled it. But maybe I'll give OA a try again.

Thanks!
