I have a Gateway 7310S QS. I reloaded the OS from the restore disk's that came with it. Now Windows XP is to the part were it wants to walk me through the setup but the mouse and keyboard won't work. They are USB devises connected through an adapter to the ps/2 ports. The mouse is a laser which lights up so I assume that port has power but I still can't input into the computer. I have tried connecting the mouse and keyboard straight to the other USB ports but they don't work as the laser mouse doesn't light up. Please help.

No Mouse or Keyboard

Hmm seems that if you are using restore disks that the drivers for mouse/keyboard would have loaded immediately...but I don't know anything about restore disks and how they work.
What is this adapter that you speak of?
I read somewhere that when installing XP, there is only 1 live USB port. I recently did a clean install of XP and found this to be true for my motherboard (I have 4 USB ports in the rear, but only 1 worked).
I think I'd find a PS2-connection keyboard for the install...you need the mouse for an install. I only remember using the keyboard to input my XP key.
