I've never used their AV program, but I have used their online scanner. It's pretty good at what it does (and effective), but it takes  forever to scan my computer using the full service scan (maybe 4-5 hours).....whereas Trend Micro's Housecall scanner takes only....maybe 2 hours on average.

....other than their online scanner, I have no clue about their Antivirus service...

Hello.

Before I even joined BC, this computer used Windows Live Onecare that my parents downloaded and installed.
Unfortunately it was a trial for 120 days, I think. If I remember correctly it was Windows Security Centre that pooped up telling my computer that it didn't have an anti-virus program.

Under the Virus Protection there is a recommendation bar. My parents clicked that and there was a message saying:
"Get another anti-virus program how?.

At that time, there weren't Kaspersky or McAfee or AVG.

They were some Microsoft anti-virus program. My parents choose Windows Live One care.

The program itself, I thought was good. The scanning time for me took only a few hours. It didn't hog alot of resources. IT was a trial though . Never used it after it expired, I remember it was a good anti-virus program. It didn't let me download any bad programs. If there were a file that was malicious from an e-mail attachment or web page it will give you some sort of warning.

That's just my feedback on this Anti-virus program. I use AVG 8.0 now, if Windows Live One Care wasn't a trial I probably will still be using it now because I am too lazy to look for another anti-virus program :flowers:. Not trying to say you shouldn't test out other anti-virus program, that is just how I'm like. As long as it does a good job of removing and detecting malicious files then I am happy with it. :trumpet:

With Regards,
Extremeboy

Hi Extremeboy, thanks but it sounds as if you have doubts about just what your parents had and didn't have... This isn't a trial version, and it does have anit-virus & spy ware.... I'm kinda lazy to  but thought I'd try and see if anyone else had this and what there thoughts were on the program... still waiting to hear from someone that knows about it ... That is in the here and now, it sounds like what your talking about took place some time back, and we all know how fast things change in the pc world... thanks again

Hello.

I see what you mean. Actually it wasn't a long time ago. It was this year around February. Almost a year I would say. I wouldn't say it is a bad anti-virus software, I just don't hear this type of anti-virus program mentioned alot.

Hard to believe 69 people have read this with only one response, did I say something dirty or what ?

As I said, I don't know if many people use Windows Live one care because its not mentioned that much.

Read here for a review on this product. Also you might want to look at some other people's comment on the product

I installed it yesterday just to test it out on another machine. I would say it's fairly good.

It has a two-way firewall includes anti-virus and anti-spyware protection. DOn't know if you have the firewall version though. It's scan speed is fairly fast. My hard-drive had 50GB occupied the scan took 1 1/2 hours. Detected some internet temp files and also some things in the systemvolumeinformation folder.

That's all I can say in regards of what I have seen so far. Many users in that product review said about slow update problems, which was strange because I thought that the update wasn't slow at all. Perhaps it's just an overall review, saying that most of the time its slow. Also what do you think of the product itself?

Hope that gives you some ideas and feedback.

With Regards,
Extremeboy

Hi Extremeboy, At the time I wrote whats in your "Quote" there was only one response about this, so I'm not sure why you put that in there.... And I did'nt mean anything other than what it said...Maybe it was a sad attempt at humor on my part ?.. :flowers: But getting back to the topic here, so far I've found Windows Live Onecare to be fairly good, I surf a lot and have had WLOcare stop many spy/viruses and whatnot from screwing up my pc. Updates don't seem to be a problem with me, if you pick once a month to backup your pc like I do, then you just set it then forget it. Which I like more than mmmmm is it time to backup ? And you can pick where you want to have the backup.. online, within the pc its self (which never made sense to me) or to disk, which is what I do. Although you have to be careful when you first do a backup if you pick a full backup it will copy your windows too. Not just your files, pic.s etc, etc... Other than it seems to take my pc a little more time to first load when I go on line I have no complains right now... And it does stop you and ask if you want what your downloading, even if its from Microsoft its self which is funny.....:trumpet: ...... But thanks for your comments and help, have a good one

Copeland
