I filled up my hard drive and tried to install a 2nd as a slave but it's not working/registering.

I have a Samsung sp8004h as the original drive and tried to install a WD 800JB as a slave. The device manager shows both are working fine but when I download my pictures I get a notice that my hard drive is full. The 2nd drive does not show up under "my computer". I have the SP set up as my master at the end of the ribbon on the black connector and the WD set up in the middle on the gray connector as a slave. I have the jumpers set on cable select for master and slave on each drive. I can feel both humming so I'm sure there is power. Under set-up I have both set for auto as per another forum in BC. One thing I'm not sure about is if the new drive is formated, not sure there. I'm running XP Home on a 5-6 year old computer.

What next?

Hi .

Generally speaking, new drives come unformatted, which is why they don't register in My Computer/Explorer, but do register in the BIOS and in XP's Disk Management.

A new drive must be initialized and formatted before it can be used by Windows. This can be done in Disk Management.
