So, Ive been using my PC for about a year now, and when I first built it I realized that the video card would not give me a signal if seated in the x16 slot, but it would if it was in the x4. SO I figured, no biggy. come to find out that there is a difference between the two, and that it -can- be significant. For some reason, on a ABIT IP35 Pro, it just will not send a signal when put in the x16 slot. Any ideas? Also, if anyone has the links, I could really use some for the power plugs for both the 8800GTS (512mb) and the ABIT IP35 Pro. Thanks!

EDIT: Oh, also when its in the x16 slot.. the fan on the 8800 just spins at max speed, and thats all it does until I turn the PC off.

Maybe I'm just being stupid (quite possible ) but the specs indicate how many PCI-e x 16 slots?

OK, I did a little reading and I think I understand now. You have 2 PCI-E slots which are X16 size...but one is only wired for X4.

In any case, I don't know much about vid cards but...if what you say is true, then either your card or your PCI-E slot would appear to be defective, IMO.

Wait for someone with more knowledge about such :flowers:.

There are 2 PCI-E slots for SLI. One is the primary (The Blue slot) and will work when 1 card is installed. The other is for the 2nd card (the black slot) for SLI and will not work with only one card installed.

One PCI Express graphics card installation:
Insert your PCI Express graphics card into slot
[PCIEXP1].
※ Do not install only one PCI Express
graphics card on slot [PCIEXP2], for
such an act will pull its speed down to 4x only

As for the power connections does your power supply have the PCI-E power connections for the card?

Yes, I do and they its plugged into the card. The problem isn't that its not getting power (emits a high, loud squeal when that's the case) but they fact that it just wont give a signal when in the blue slot. Instead the fan on it just runs at max speed. The computer will shut down twice and then stay on, with fans at max speeds, until I manually disconnect the power.

From NewEgg customer reviews:

Quote

Cons: The PCIx slots on this board are PCI Express 1.0/1.0a compatible. They are NOT 1.1 (much less 2.0). The nvidia 8800 series graphics cards are PCI Express 2.0 - and are NOT guaranteed compatible with anything below 1.1.

Other Thoughts: Do your homework if buying this board for use with an 8800 card. There are tons of forum postings on abit's site with people having quirky issues with 8800 compatibility.. some work and some don't... nvidia nor abit have any answers/solutions.

* to be fair, this is not only an Abit issue.. several other manufacturers have this same problem.. do your homework!

MOBO: GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD4P, CPU: Phenom II X4 955 Deneb BE, HS/F: CoolerMaster V8, RAM: 2 x 1G Kingston HyperX DDR2 800, GPU: eVGA GeForce 9800 GTX+, PSU: Antec TruePower Modular 750W, Soundcard: Asus Xonar D1, Case: CoolerMaster COSMOS 1000, Storage: Internal - 2 x Seagate 250GB SATA, 2 x WD 1TB SATA; External - Seagate 500GB USB, WD 640GB eSATA, 3 x WD 1TB eSATA
