On a whim I downloaded the Web Developer toolbar add on for Firefox. I then forgot about it for about a week, and didn't check out all the new buttons on my toolbar.
When I finally did check it out I was amazed! You can do just about anything you want to with web pages with this toolbar. You can view, a site's css sheet, html source, edit the source code, validate the html, css, links, or feeds on a page. You can add a style sheet, or edit the style sheet already there.
There is even a menu entry on it to disable all styles on a site. You can disable images, or show image urls, or have an image's alt text replace the image.
You can examine all parts of a web page's structure with this tool, there are menu selections to show the divs on the page, or just about any other element you want to examine. On the Forms menu it allows you to Show Passwords [I guess in plain text so you can see them in their input fields on the form]
It will let you clear the cache, the history, or all private data in the browser. You can mark all links on a page as having been visited, or reset them to unvisited. You can disable cookies, clear session cookies, clear domain cookies, delete path cookies, and view cookie information, or add a cookie.
It has menu entries to show an outline around differing elements of the page, and to show the element names at the same time if you want.
There are too many menu items in this toolbar to mention here. It is an invaluable learning tool for any aspiring web developer. You can see how others are doing things on their sites and apply the principles to your own designs. Then you can automatically validate your code with the W3C with a simple mouse click.
It works with Firefox, Seamonkey, and Flock. Here is their web site.
