When I boot up. I get a warning that Generic Host Process Win 32 services is asking permission to act as a server. What is this and is it safe to deny access and block it with my firewall. At present I just deny it day by day but I would prefer to know what it is before I bock it permanently. This is a recent phenomenon ? because of service pack 3?
There cant possibly be a crisis today. My diary is full! Dont forget. If life sends you lemons, get some tequila and salt and invite me over!!

Just querying using Google...most of the users with this...are ZA users. Seems like a ZA bug to me.

Been crawling all over the forum you mentioned but so many conflicting views and too techy for me.

The Generic Host Process is also known as svchost.exe. It's a process that hosts other processes. Most times it's requests to act as a server are benign - but you never know until you know what's actually requesting it.

With any firewall the "standard" advice is to block it temporarily for a while - and if everything works as it should, then block it permanently.

Thanks. I have been blocking but will try permanent block as everything works ok when it is blocked.
