It's been two years since I last blew out my HDD. I know I'm a bit overdue. When I last set it up, I made three partitions: C, D and E. The latter two were places I stored things I wanted to back up: data, movies, music, etc on the off chance that windows went down, I'd still be able to boot and recover them.
I'm having some problems at login, though. I'm starting to get BSODs as soon as I type my password. This is generally a Bad Thing. Here's what I need to know: What are my best options at one last attempt to backup and retrieve the data on my other partitions before having to sacrifice the whole HDD?
As far as I can figure...
(1) FDISK the C: partition and reinstall windows. I can then fetch my data and burn them to a disc.
(2) Use a bootable OS, like I heard Knoppix was once intended for, to load up, access the other partitions and try to rescue/burn from there.
I don't have my 98SE bootable floppy, anymore. It is not where I left it (with my OS install disc), so I don't know where it is, and generating it... is something I can't do because I can't get into windows. I also know *nothing* about Knoppix other than it was originally designed to be a bootable OS that allows you to use/operate a computer from the CD.
What options and workarounds are the best bet? Is there something I haven't considered trying?
