I've recently had to connect my computer via USB to my cable modem. Connecting with the Ethernet cable will not work for some reason. I was told it was a bad network adapter. I'm not sure it this is correct. If so, where would the best place be to get one? Thanks.

Hi .

Well, it could be a bad NIC...could also be the fact that you have the USB drivers installed. Some of the USB/ethernet modems that I've seen require that the drivers for the USB be removed when connecting via ethernet. You might want to take a look at your documentation for the modem.

Hi,

What was happening when you tried to connect via Ethernet Cable?

Any local PC store will be able to supply a network interface card, do you have any in your local area.

Also have a look at Newegg

Connecting via Ethernet cable would get me nothing but low or no connectivity. It wasn't until after this problem that I installed the USB drivers for the modem/computer.

Which one of those NIC's would you recommend?

This would depend what slots you have available in your computer.
Do you know if your current card is PCI or PCI-E - if your not sure on this please ask.

Or post the make and model or your computer.

I'm not completely sure.

I have a Compaq Presario SR1303WM. I have the PC Wizard program if that'll help identify what I need.

It would appear you have PCI Slot's which is pretty much standard for normal machines.

Either this Linksys or this D-Link would be sufficient.
The only real difference you'll see is the price you pay.
