RAM problem

Ok, so I tried to install some RAM 2sticks of 1GB DDR 400 GSkill memory. turned on my computer and all my PC would do is cycle all my hardwareI guess, it wouldn't even POST. So I said bollocks and reinstalled my old sticks and now the computer is working fine. . . Or so I thought.

When I finally booted to the desktop I noticed it was a little sluggish, so I booted up EVEREST and looked at all my hardware. I noticed that it was detecting both of my memory sticks, but I was only getting 512MB out of 1GB. I turned off the PC again and made sure it was seated properly, turned it on, same problem, when I see the Post screen it says 512MB ddr400 and when I turn on EVEREST I see this

I can't read your screen shots, what does it say.

It would also help to know what the make and model of this computer, or if it is a custom build the motherboard.

the screenshots are to show that I only have 512 MB of ram available and everest detects two ram sticks.

Motherboard

Thats not my exact motherboard I have the "Pro" version which from the specs only difference is that it has 2 extra ram slots (different tpye of ram tho)

It would help a great deal to know what the motherboard is. This will tell me how many expansion slots there are, if it can run the RAM in dual channel, what the population of the RAM is suppose to be...

What shows for the amount of RAM under System Information?

Start> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> System Information

Do you have a link to the GSkill modules?

When I reboot on the POST screen it says 512 MB of ram but I should have 1GB. I'm hoping I just seated it incorrectly or something. =/

I'd like to add that I've had this problem before, with the same motherboard and same ram sticks, I took it to a shop and they installed the ram succesfuly, am I perhaps seating the RAM incorrectly? It's fitting into the socket but I could be wron, I'm no expert.

Well...it's a simple task.

One end of the RAM module has a break close to the center...while the other half of the module does not.

The half of the module with the space/break can only fit into the RAM slot one way, it's easy to line it up.

Once inserted properly and pushed with sufficient force to lock the ends of the slot in place...the user/inserter will hear a definitive click and the ends of the RAM slot on the motherboard will be vertical/straight up.
