After a min or so, I smelled melted plastic and before I could turn my comp off, the breaker in the room was tripped and all power was turned off.
After removing my 7 month old Power supply I was able to see a yellow plastic component had melted onto a coil (Inside the PSU). The PSU would not turn on anymore so obtained a RMA from my power supply's Manufacturer and today I recieved a brand new replacement.
Upon putting in my new PSU my computer seem to boot and run just fine. But after a few minutes of running it unexpectly turned off. And thats what happens every time you turn it on now.
I removed my new power supply and after looking at it, I noticed the same yellow plastic component had melted again.
I built my computer in early April of 2008, every peice was bought at the same time, and they where all brand new. Everything ran fine before last week.
Specs:
PSU: Corsair CMPSU-650TX 650W
MOBO: GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
RAM: G.SKILL 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (x4)
Video Card: EVGA e-GeForce 8800 GTS
OS: XP Pro SP:3
I doubt I received another bad PSU.
So any advice about what the problem could be would be very helpful.
Thank you for you help,
Sam
